What Is Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT)?

Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) is a clinically recognized, evidence-informed therapeutic modality that uses movement to support emotional regulation, cognitive integration, and physical recovery. Sessions are facilitated by Master’s level trained professionals and adapted to each client’s medical, emotional, and developmental needs.

DMT is particularly effective for:

  • Postpartum depression and anxiety

  • Birth trauma and medical trauma

  • Nervous system dysregulation

  • Body image and identity changes

  • Parent-infant attachment challenges


DMT sessions will look like…

WARM UP

  • breath work

  • mindfulness practice

  • exploration of the space you’re in

  • exploration of kinesphere (space your body takes up) through stretching and gentle movement

SESSION TOPIC

  • Embodiment practice - noticing sensations in the body

  • Interoceptive Skills Practice - develop/build language between your mind and body to interpret your sensations

  • improvisation (when ready)

  • clinical movement intervention combined with verbal processing

    • Mirroring in movement

    • Authentic Movement
